In Sounds of Space the arts and sciences merge, with an immersive projection room showcasing incredible recordings from Space, alongside a curated group show featuring an exciting collection of Australian artists.
TYPE: Video projection and group exhibition
WHERE: 107, 107 Redfern st, Redfern NSW WHEN: 17 Aug 2017 – 27 Aug 2017
HOURS: Tues–Sat 11am–6pm, Sun 11am–4pm
Sounds of Space is a free inclusive community event happening at 107, Redfern from 17-27 August 2017 that merges the arts and sciences with two exhibition spaces; a large scale projection room showcasing mind-blowing astrophotography, video and audio recordings from Space, and a curated group show of mixed media works from an exciting collection of Australian artists including disability advocate, Digby Webster and Indigenous artist Karen Lee.
The projection room will feature a rotating program of audio/video works. The first will be a traditional look at the actual electromagnetic resonance recordings from Space and the second will be a look into musical interpretations of the Universe featuring works by Classical composers Holst and Debussy and Contemporary pieces by Australian artists Oliver Tank and WZRDKID and French artist Valentin Stip.
This unique exhibition is geared towards inclusive community engagement hoping to spark joy, discovery and awe that lies in the boundless Space surrounding us. We will soon announce a community program including; an astronomy lecture on Astrophotography and Australian Indigenous Astronomy, a family day with children’s performer Nay Nay, Space yoga and kids craft and an evening Space collage workshop for adults, all free of charge.
Please note that the projection room is quite dark and the visuals are very large to create an immersive feeling, as such, some younger visitors may find it a little overwhelming. However there is so much to see in the remaining gallery that we believe there is something for everyone in the family. For the duration of any free family craft workshops (soon to be advertised) we will increase the lighting levels in the projection space and lower the volume slightly to make it more child friendly as we want young ones to engage with the exhibition as much as anyone else.
This event is proudly sponsored by City of Sydney through their Cultural and Community Matching Grants program. Sounds of Space is completely not-for-profit run by a small team of volunteers and artists working to bring this free event to the community. Please email email@example.com with any questions or comments and we will do our best to respond promptly.

This can be providing cots and bassinets so babies can have a safe place to sleep, warm clothing for an asylum seeker family through the winter, donating essential items for a mother and her children escaping domestic violence, or giving books to vulnerable children in indigenous and disadvantaged communities.

Calmbirth can be one of life’s most empowering experiences. Couples simply need the practical skills and confidence to do it their way – but somewhere along the way many women learn to connect childbirth with fear, anxiety and trauma.
It doesn’t have to be like that!
With years of experience working with couples, women and mother’s, and being a mother myself, I have a lot to share. As a Doula, for the past 8 years and educator, I have accompanied and supported many families.
Come and join our class to learn, not just about birth, but about parenting also.
Calmbirth classes are held at the Art of Health & Wellbeing in Leichhardt over 2 Sundays.
I look forward to seeing you!
