Sydney Living Museums presents Alphabetical Sydney: Creative Lab an interactive exhibition that celebrates Sydney in all its diversity, from A to Z. The exhibition has been produced in collaboration with illustrator Antonia Pesenti and author Hilary Bell, creators of the best-selling book Alphabetical Sydney. Sydney is brought to life with a series of creative activities designed to capture your imagination and encourage you to think about the magic of the city, from the icons to the suburbs, from the mundane to the wondrous.

A souvenir Lab Kit, specially created for this exhibition, leads visitors through the show using playful illustrations and rhyming verse. Visitors can investigate the clues in the mini museum, write their own verse in the poetry factory, experience the magic of Sydney at dusk or relax with a book under the canopy of a Moreton Bay fig tree. The sounds of the city in all their intensity and diversity are hidden throughout – deafening cicadas, clanging construction, an elephant’s trumpet from the zoo.

Budding artists and authors and anyone with a sense of fun and a capacity to dream will all enjoy. Take the opportunity to write and draw your way through the city you love.

Kids 5-16 years can warm up this winter at our school holiday art workshops. Choose from over 100 creative and informative workshops. With activities including drawing, painting, printmaking, cartooning, ceramics, pottery, textiles and sculpture, there’s plenty of fun for everyone.

Winter School holiday art workshops run Monday-Friday from 9-20 July.

Most workshops are are 3 hours long and run morning and afternoon (9.30am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-4.30pm). We also run some full day workshops and 2 day workshops for older students. Workshop prices include all art materials and tuition.

Children can come to one workshop, several across the holidays or stay for a full day. Lunchtime supervision is offered at no extra charge.

in Sydney’s Inner West

Art Est. offers a boutique learning experience for adults, teens and children. Located in a spacious, light-filled heritage warehouse, with four dedicated teaching studios, an art gallery and a new ceramics studio. Our class sizes are kept to only 10-12 students (8 for wheel throwing pottery), ensuring each student receives the individual tuition they need.

Art classes for adults are available weekdays, evenings and Saturday mornings. We also have a great range of single day weekend art workshops available, a perfect option for visitors to Sydney looking for things to do, or for someone who doesn’t have time to commit to a term class.

Kids and Teens can build their creative skills at our after school and Saturday term classes as well as our school holiday workshops each and every holiday.

Oscar Wilde’s classic tales spring to life in the sharp, snappy, and thoroughly fun family production, Wilde Creatures, at Riverside Theatres from 19^th to 21^st July.

Nica Burns and the Olivier-nominated producers of The Gruffalo, Tall Stories, will take audiences on a fantastical journey through palaces, forests and beyond in this exciting new adaptation of Wilde’s best-loved stories.

Once upon a time, there was a town that was dark and grey. The North Wind blew bitterly through the streets and in the town square there was an empty platform where a statue of the Happy Prince had once stood. There is to be a new statue – but of whom? Which of the townsfolk is important enough to be immortalised in stone and raised above everyone else?

A motley crew of storytelling musicians bring characters from The Happy Prince, The Nightingale and the Rose and The Birthday of the Infanta to the stage, as they try to decide on a new statue. Will it be the pompous Mayor, the haughty Princess or the love-sick Student?

Fast-paced and filled with original live music, imaginative storytelling and a generous dash of comedy, Wilde Creatures is a delight for young and old.

Leap into Literacy is thrilled to be opening a new centre in Balmain and would like you to help us celebrate by coming to our Open Day!

The Balmain Centre Open Day will be on Saturday July 21 from 10am-2pm at Suite 2/314-322 Darling Street, Balmain.

Please come along and check out our new centre and bring along a gold coin for our children’s book sale with all proceeds going to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. We will also have popcorn, kid’s activities, and more! Street parking is available as well as a car park directly behind with entrance from Beattie Street.

Leap into Literacy has been running classes from our Drummoyne centre for two years and are very excited to be adding a brand new centre in Balmain. We are proud to offer small tutoring classes with a focus on reading comprehension and writing. Using techniques that allow students to become creative in the learning process, sessions are fun and achieve maximum results. Classes are held after-school and on weekends from six different locations. We are also very excited to now offer Preschool classes at our new Balmain centre in addition to our current classes for children in Years K-6.

After winning over everyone who came to see it in 2016, this very cheeky, very clever, utterly irreverent riff on Hamlet – made especially for children – is back for an eagerly anticipated return season.
